| The search for 'Bob' is over thanks to the early release of the 1911
census which shows Bob's full name of Herbert Robert Albert Barnes. The
Commonwealth Graves Commission website and his medal card show him as
Albert Herbert Robert Barnes but it is very unlikely that there were two
soldiers with that combination of first names. Interestingly his father
Thomas George Barnes is listed here as George. I have seen this before
and at one time believed that Thomas and George were brothers when
actually the same person. Thomas George is most likely known as George
to avoid confusion with his father; Thomas Barnes (1838-1917). |
