Where We Lived: |
|||
The Barnes Family lived in both Hampshire and London. In
Hampshire they were farm workers and in some cases they were tenant
farmers of the Duke of Wellington - some of
the farms around the Heckfield and Mattingley area of Hampshire still
exist to this day, although no longer worked by members of the
family. Of the family that moved to London in the 1860's we know
where they lived thanks to the detail provided by the 1871 and
subsequent census's and from information on birth, marriage and death
certificates. Some of the addresses in London no longer exist either
because of later redevelopment or because of war-time bombing. Some that
still exist have been renamed.
All known addresses are listed here and where possible a photograph and/or a
map reference to the property in question is shown. Where a property has been
redeveloped a contemporary map, if available is shown instead. The
current addresses of living members of the Barnes family are not shown.
